STEVE! My dead dog STEVE!

Short form is my favorite, and it is how I got started writing operas. At the moment I can tell you about one of two new shorts I’ve got premiering this season!

First up is STEVE with Boston Opera Collaborative as part of their annual Opera Bites program. Here’s the synopsis:

Ann attends her synagogue’s singles mixer. The only man there is the reincarnation of her dead mutt, Steve. Adapted from the play by Liz Bartucci.

Performances are October 26th-28th. STEVE is just one of six brand new commissions on the program, and there are seven pieces to sample in all. You can read all about the show and get your tickets here. If you are in the area, I hope you will come! I really had a blast adapting this hilariously heartbreaking play.

I will post about the second short project here and in all the usual places once the word is officially out, which I hope will be in the coming days. Until then, as my Jewish mother likes to say, I’m sitting on shpilkes! More soon!

UPDATE: The video from the premiere performance is now up on this website’s Music page. Happy viewing!
